Built in the early 1700's the bishops table hotel is a fine example of early Georgian architecture with its distinctive frontage, and original windows and shutters, all in perfect working order. It is set in a prominent position next to the library in West Street, one of the finest Georgian Streets in Surrey.
The building was once the home of The Marquis of Lothian who purchased it in 1808. He constructed and regularly used a pathway leading down through the beautiful two acre garden leading to the impressive St Andrew's Parish Church (the largest Parish Church in Surrey). The present owners have plans to further landscape this area. The Marquis is also reputed to have formed the first ladies cricket team in Farnham!
The hotel was used until 1919 for the education of Anglican Clergy.
The famous sculptress Sheila Mitchell lived here in rooms on the top floor during the twentieth century.
An intimate, privately owned and managed 18th century hotel in the heart of Farnham offering comfortable en suite bedrooms, café-bar, delightful peaceful garden, and excellent personal service from a team of dedicated staff.
The Bishops Table’s Future is Nearly Here!
If you are a regular visitor to the hotel you will be aware that we
have been planning for a number of years to carry out improvements and development here at the Bishops Table Hotel. Our objective is to offer an outstanding quality hotel to match the beautiful market town of Farnham.
We have spent considerable time listening to the local community,
conservation specialists, and local planners to ensure that our
plans not only fulfil our guest’s needs, but also those of our town
Having listened to all feedback and discussing further with Waverley planners, we are delighted to announce that at the end of November 2011, we submitted an updated planning application to Waverley Borough Council. We strongly believe this revised plan will offer the best all round solution for a strong and secure future here at the hotel.
We have submitted an application that would, if planning was granted, allow for:
Architect Michael Phillips of MBP Architects from Richmond, Surrey has designed the proposed unique scheme, which considerably enhances the existing Grade 2 listed building.
The outcome of this proposal is crucial to the future of The Bishops Table Hotel, and we would please welcome your support on the Waverley website. If you would like any clarification on any aspects of the planning application, please do not hesitate to contact us.
